The Centre for Human Rights, Education, Advice and Assistance – CHREAA is pressing the police authorities to begin taking action on officers who deliberately perpetrate acts of brutality against the citizenry.
This follows a case where police in Ndirande, Blantyre kept a theft suspect in handcuffs for 11 days, causing serious injury to his arms and limbs in the process.
Stories circulating on police brutality, especially against suspects in custody, have been going on for quite long time now in the country.
CHREAA Executive Director, Victor Mhango has confirmed the development.
Mhango said that failure by management to punish bad apples is compromising the police system.
