Police in Lilongwe have arrested one of their own Inspector Victor Masonga for allegedly abducting and defiling a 13 year old girl.
National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera has confirmed of the development.
According to reports, Masonga is believed to have abducted the girl from Blantyre before defiling her in Lilongwe.
Kadadzera said they received a complaint from the victim’s mothers on the matter and after thorough investigations, the suspect was arrested.
“We received a complaint from mother to the survivor alerting us on the issue at hand.
“We conducted our own investigations on the matter and I can confirm that we have arrested him,” said Kadadzera.
The police publicist then said that Masonga will be taken to court soon where he will be formerly charged.
It is believed that Masonga spotted his prey in Chiradzulo district in April when she was among the bridal party for the wedding of his (Masonga) relative.
Masonga was working at Area 30 Police Headquarters in the Capital Lilongwe until his arrest.
