The Ministry of Local Government has announced the death of Traditional Authority (TA) Makuta of Nkhotakota.
The ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Anjoya Mwanza, said in a statement on Tuesday T.A. Makuta, born Shalimu Alumaza, died on Monday at his home in Nkhotakota after battling with pneumonia.
Born on August 12, 1922, Makuta served as Group Village Head before being elevated to T.A. on October 8, 2016.
According to Mwanza, the burial of the remains of the departed chief will take place today (Wednesday) at his headquarters in Nkhotakota.
He is survived by a wife, 10 children and 55 grandchildren.
The death of T.A. Makuta comes barely three months after T.A. Mphonde from the same district also died after succumbing to pneumonia.
