At the 2021 BET Awards, hip hop legend and actress Queen Latifah will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Hosted by Taraji P. Henson, the 2021 BET Awards will honor many stars in Black culture. Among those being honored at this year’s award show will be Queen Latifah, a pioneer, and icon in hip-hop.

Making her debut in 1988, Queen Latifah has notched many accomplishments in her career both in music and in Hollywood. In 1995, Queen Latifah won the Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance with her hit song “U.N.I.T.Y.” In 1997, Queen Latifah became the first rapper to appear in a Super Bowl halftime show, and in 2006 she became the first hip-hop artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Achieving much with her music career, she went on to make an impact on both television and film with her roles in “Living Single,” the cult classic “Set It Off,” “The Queen Latifah Show,” “Chicago,” and “Beauty Shop.” Queen Latifah also won a Primetime Emmy in 2015 for Outstanding Television Movie with “Bessie.”

Adding another milestone to her career, becoming the third-youngest solo artist to be honored with the Lifetime achievement award behind Whitney Houston at 37 years old and Mary J. Blige at 48.

The “Year of the Black Woman” themed 2021 BET Awards will air Sunday, June 27 at 8 PM EST.
