The annual Kulamba Traditional Ceremony of the Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique scheduled for this year has been canceled due to the rising cases of COVID-19 pandemic in Malawi and Zambia.
Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi of the Chewa people directed that the ceremony which usually takes place towards the end of August at Mkaika in Zambia, be canceled.
Confirming the development to the media, Senior Chief Lukwa has meanwhile advised his subjects to adhere strictly to COVID-19 guidelines, adding that following health advice is the only way the pandemic will be defeated.
He hopes the ceremony will take place next year.
The ceremony is a way of bringing together different Chewa chiefs from the three countries to present their reports of grievances to paramount chief Kalonga Gawa Undi
