The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has assured the nation of credible, fair and transparent by-elections in Nsanje-Lalanje Ward.

MEC has made the assurance today in Nsanje during the briefing of the district elections supervisory team on the polling process and result management.

According to Commissioner Caroline Mfune, all the preparations for the June 29, Local Government polls in Nsanje-Lalanje Ward have been completed.

“We are set to deliver free, credible and transparent elections next week,” said Mfune.

In his remarks, the District Commissioner for Nsanje, Dr Medson Matchaya, said he is very confident that the elections will be peaceful.

“We have not had issues of electoral violence and we are very sure that even the voting process will be violent free,” said Matchaya.

The Local Government seat fell vacant following the death of the area’s councillor who died earlier this year.
