Old Mutual Malawi has finally fulfilled its promise by presenting the 2020/2021 Business Journalist award prizes to two journalists who emerged winners during Misa Malawi Annual Events held this year at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

The two awardees namely; Justin Mkweu of Times Group and Dumbani Mzale of Nation Publication received a laptop each.

Speaking to the press after the ceremony Old Mutual Pension Services General Manager Taonga Manda said the initiative is part of their efforts to provide a platform for journalists to effectively report issues and increase knowledge on savings, investment and insurance industry in Malawi.

“As Old Mutual we are very delighted to present this prize to the winners today and we encourage more journalists to venture into this reporting because most Malawians have little knowledge in pension services, investment and insurance industry in general.

“As Old Mutual we will continue supporting Misa Malawi in various ways,” said Manda.

On her part Misa Malawi Board Vice-Chairperson, Mandy Pondani said Misa expects journalists to utilise the partnership to grow themselves professional and write more about pension schemes and insurance while demystifying issues of savings and insurance to Malawians.

Pondani also hailed Old Mutual for honouring its support toward Misa Malawi.

“As MISA Malawi we are impressed with the rapport and relationship between us and Old Mutual and also bearing in mind that we are tackling the subject which is hardly covered by our members and Journalists in general and for Old Mutual to come in, for us it has helped to motivate more journalists to write more on finance, pension, Insurance other staff which are usually not covered,” she said.

On his part Mkweu, one of the winners hailed Old Mutual for the prize and urged the company to continue supporting MISA Malawi.

Old Mutual has since unveiled the 2021/22 topic.
