Four men have been arrested in Dedza for tampering with ESCOM equipment.
ESCOM’s Public Relations Manager Innocent Chitosi said the men were hired by a maize mill owner to fix an electricity fault business premises.
According to Chitosi, the suspects used wooden ladder and did not have recommended tools and protective equipment.
He said the four men tampered with live electricity lines and a meter box.
Chitosi has indicated that such acts are not only criminal but also dangerous as they can spark fires that can lead to loss of lives and property.
“Such acts do not only damage ESCOM’s equipment, they also pose danger to society as fires can erupt due to improper handling of power lines,” said Chitosi
