The Inspector General of Malawi Police Service (MPS) Dr. George Kainja has said the current police is reformed which is driven to create a perfect working relationship with the members of the general public.

Kainja made the remarks on Wednesday when he visited communities of Msundwe in the capital Lilongwe.

According to Kainja, the current police is not evil adding that “It serves the interest of the people. You can even eat with a police officer.”

Speaking on the sour relationship that exists between communities of Msundwe and the police, Kainja said the police is committed to work with them regardless.

He disclosed that government is planning to construct a new police post with at least 20 staff houses in Msundwe.

“Plans are already there to construct a modern police post and 20 staff houses here,” he said.

Kainja further strongly condemned mob justice and attacks on the elderly on witchcraft accusations.

Senior Chief Kalolo said the presence of police officers in the area will greatly curb criminal activities in Msundwe and surrounding areas.

“In the absence of police, we have been suffering a lot. We are frequently attacked by thieves and we have nowhere to report to. Now, we are happy that the police will be back for our own safety,” said Kalolo.

In his remarks, Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mapuyu-North Horace Chipuwa shared Senior Chief Kalolo’s sentiments.

The meeting was spiced up with a football and netball match between Blue Eagles and Msundwe.

In the football match Blue Eagles beat Msundwe United by 3 goals to 2. In netball, Blue Eagles Queens massacred Msundwe Sisters by 27 baskets to 3 baskets.
