One of the contestants in the Nkhata-Bay Central Constituency by-elections Ralph Mhone who stood on People’s Party (PP) ticket has conceded defeat.
On Tuesday, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) held by-elections in Nkhata-Bay Central Constituency, Lalanje Ward in Nsanje and Chikwembere Ward in Blantyre North.
MEC declared Symon Vuwa Kaunda of Democratic Progressive party (DPP) as winner in Nkhata-Bay after amassing 5,422 votes against Mhone who got 5, 223 votes.
Speaking to the press after the declaration Mhone conceded defeat.
“The people of Nkhata-Bay have spoken and Democracy has won,” said Mhone.
The Nkhata Bay Parliamentary seat fell vacant when the Supreme Court nullified the constituency’s 2019 poll result where Symon Vuwa Kaunda was declared winner.
His main contender, Raphael Joseph Mhone challenged the result.
