Reports have indicated that as of midday on Friday there was no confirmation at the Pietermaritzburg High Court that former president Jacob Zuma will be seeking an urgent stay of his pending arrest.
News24 and other media in South Africa reported that Zuma’s legal team was on Friday believed to be preparing to apply to the Constitutional Court for a rescission of its order that he be imprisoned for 15 months for contempt of court.
He was given five days to hand himself over to the authorities to start serving his sentence.
South African news outlet, News24 reported that Zuma was simultaneously expected to approach the Pietermaritzburg High Court to stay his arrest pending the outcome of the application to rescind the Constitutional Court ruling.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court registrar said by 1 pm on Friday, Zuma’s legal team had not yet approached the high court to issue court papers and arrange for a judge to hear an urgent application.
