President Lazarus Chakwera has pardoned 156 prisoners as a demonstration of good will as the country is celebrating 57 years of independence.
Minister of Homeland Security, Richard Chimwendo Banda has confirmed the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi.
According to Banda, those pardoned are prisoners that committed minor offences and those whose sentences were coming to an end.
Malawi will be celebrating its 57th Independence Day tomorrow and the main event will be held in the capital Lilongwe.
President Chakwera will attend the Independence Day celebrations.
