Police in Mponela have launched a manhunt for unknown thugs who murdered a motorcyclist who was on business errands.
Mponela Police Spokesperson Sergeant Macpatson Msadala has confirmed of the incident and identified the deceased as a 25 year old Pemphero Biyati.
According to Msadala, the incident happened on the night of July 2, 2021 between Linde Hotel and Dzoole earth road at around 01:00 hours.
It is reported that the motorcyclist was on June 2, 2021 hired by a customer to drop her at Mponela Trading Centre for shopping.
After dropping the customer, the motorcyclist also did his shopping (groceries inclusive) and later branched at one video houses and watched international football until midnight when he started off on his motorcycle through the same earth road.
Upon reachingĀ Mpatsa village, about three hundred meters away from the nearby houses, he was attacked by unknown criminals who hit him on his forehead with unknown weapon and later robbed him of his groceries and left him unconscious with hisĀ motorcycle.
After some time, he gained consciousness and walked to a nearby house where he narrated the whole incident and was rushed to Mtengowanthenga Mission Hospital where he was further referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital.
The victim died upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital on July 2, 2021 at around 15:00 hours.
Postmortem revealed that death was due to severe head injuries.
Meanwhile investigations are underway to arrest the culprits.
The deceased hailed from Kanjoka Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kayembe in Dowa.
