Ntcheu District’s Acting Traditional Authority (T/A) Njolomole has ordered that female students from Malawi Adventist University, Lakeview Campus should with immediate effect, stop wearing trousers and short skirts around Njolomole village where the school is located in the district.

In his own words, Njolomole said he finds this type of dressing is embarrassing to Njolomole Village bearing that it is “well known for upholding of cultural norms”.

Meanwhile, women rights activist, Beatrice Mateyo, says the decision is unconstitutional and litigable in the courts.

However, in a circular dated 30 June 2021 signed by Pearson Zungu, Dean of Students at Malawi Adventist University, Lakeview Campus, the university is advising adherence to the TA’s decree.
