The University of Malawi (UNIMA) formerly Chancellors Collage (Chanco) has temporarily suspended classes in response to a rise in COVID-19 cases recorded at the institution from the second week of June.
A statement released by the institute bearing the University Registrar, Mary Wasiri’s signature says following advice from the University Emergency Advisory Committee ( UEAC), management has set aside one week as an emergency drill week from July 5 – 9, 2021.
“The drill week activities include planning and testing of the implementation of various configurations of teaching and learning strategies with an emphasis on the use of e-learning platforms to ensure decongested environment at all times,” said Wasiri.
The Registrar further acknowledges that the University Clinic will continue monitoring the situation during the drill week and provide updates daily on the situation of Covid-19 at the University.
Recently, 21 students and one staffer at UNIMA tested positive to Covid-19.
