World Food Programme Country Director Paul Turnbull says he is impressed with Malawi’s food record programme in the last harvest season as it is a huge step for maintaining food security among households.

Turnbull made the sentiments in Lilongwe in an interview with the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

World Food Programme Country Representative Paul Turnbull told MBC that Malawi food record in the last harvest season is a good platform to build food-secure homes.

Turnbull added that WFP will continue to partner Government in various aspects that ensure households have sufficient food to alleviate hunger.

Turnbull is of the view that there is a need to rely on a variety of crops to ensure that households do not lack food provisions.

He added that WFP will expand its cash distribution programme to target more female-headed homes.
