Nsanje district council direct employees have gone into a fifth month without salaries.
Concerned employees have said that life has been a misery as a result, saying the council has yet to pay them salary arrears dating back to March this year.
The council largely blames delayed payment of salaries on a drop in the council’s revenue collection.
The council’s direct employees have however faulted the council officials who allegedly squandered money in allowances at Nchalo in Chikwawa last week, where they allegedly went to discuss solutions to the council’s drop in revenue, arguing they should have used the money to settle some salary arrears.
The officials allegedly pocketed three days allowances, allegations Council Chairperson, Andrew Piliminta, has dismissed.
