A South African radio personality Ngizwe Mchunu has “given” the country’s president Cyril Ramaphosa three days to release former president Jacob Zuma from jail or “all hell will break loose”.
Mchunu, a former Ukhozi FM presenter, was addressing scores of Zuma supporters in KwaMai-Mai in Johannesburg, Gauteng on Sunday. He said:
I fear what is going to happen in this country if our President is not released from prison within 3 days, starting from today (Sunday).
Cyril Ramaphosa, Judge Raymond Zondo, the time for the meetings you are holding is over, release Zuma from prison, or hell will break loose.
During his address, Mchunu said he was very saddened by the fact that an 80-year-old freedom fighter is in prison.
The sporadic pro-Zuma protests that hit KwaZulu-Natal on Friday and Saturday have reportedly also spread to several parts of Gauteng.
The protests have been reported in areas including Malvern, Jeppestown, Denver, Wynberg and the Johannesburg CBD where some businesses have been looted.
The South African Police Service (SAPS), announced that one person had been shot dead, following a wave of rioting and looting across several provinces.
The protests come after South Africa’s Constitutional Court imposed a 15-month jail sentence on Zuma after he had disobeyed the court’s order compelling him to appear before the Zondo Commission investigating allegations of state capture.
