The number of COVID-19 active cases seems to be fast growing with the latest report showing the numbers jumping to 4,009 with death toll now being at 1,234.

This has been confirmed in a statement released by Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda made available to faceofmalawi.

According to the statement, in the past 24 hours the country has recorded 232 new COVID-19 cases with 67 new recoveries.

“In the past 24 hours, Malawi has registered 232 new COVID-19 cases, 67 new recoveries and six new deaths. All are locally transmitted cases: 129 from Blantyre, 42 from Lilongwe, 11 each from Machinga and Zomba, eight from Chikwawa, five from Mulanje, four from Mchinji, three each from Mzimba North and Thyolo, two each from Balaka, Dowa, Mwanza, Ntcheu, and Ntchisi, and one each from Chitipa, Dedza, Mangochi, Nkhata Bay, Phalombe, and Salima Districts.

“Six new deaths were registered in the past 24 hours: four from Blantyre, one each from Mulanje and Thyolo Districts. To the families that have lost their loved ones during this pandemic, may you find peace, hope and love during this difficult time. May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” reads in part the statement.

Reports also show that Minister of Information Gospel Kazako has contacted the virus.

Kazako is currently in self-isolation.
