The Limbe Magistrate Court has found guilty a police officer who was being accused of raping a Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) female student.

Andrew Chagaga raped the then 17-year-old girl around Limbe after she was arrested for idling she was going for prayers.

Chagaga was arrested on 13 December last year and taken to court for a plea where he denied the charges.

Delivering his ruling this afternoon, Magistrate Soka Banda said evidence presented in court by the state proved Chagaga had raped the girl after she was arrested.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Soka Banda has revoked Chagaga’s bail.

The court will convene again on 11 August 2021 when Chagaga will be sentenced.
