The Country’s Former President who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Arthur Peter Mutharika has announced that he will retire from his position in 2023.

Mutharika made the announcement on Sunday, July 18, during his 81st birthday party at his retirement home in Mangochi district.

Hundreds of DPP supporters gathered at the residence in an outdoor event in view of the Covid 19 pandemic.

The DPP leader snubbed claims that he is clinging to the leadership position, saying he is ready to retire after serving the party for 9 years.

He stressed that a smooth succession plan is crucial to ensure the party bounces back to the government in 2025.

Mutharika urged the supporters that during the party’s convention they should choose a person with honesty and integrity in order to develop the country.
