AKA AND NELLI TEMBE’S ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP
Following the news that AKA may have cleared his name in the investigation of Nelli Tembe’s death, it has been reported that both AKA and Nelli Tembe allegedly opened cases of assault against one another.
AKA AND NELLI TEMBE’S ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP
According to a report by City Press, rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known by his stage name AKA, and Tembe opened three cases of assault against one another at the Randburg and Douglasdale police stations.
City Press also reported that in June, AKA’s lawyers were allegedly requested to provide a follow-up statement detailing the violent incidents that occurred when Tembe allegedly attacked AKA.
“The following is required from your client. According to his initial statement, the deceased has a history of attempting suicide and he lists a few incidents. The NPA requires comprehensive statements in regards to these incidents,” reads an e-mail sent to the lawyers, according to City Press.
“The particulars of the owner of the property he resides in, the particulars of the security guard he mentions in his statement. If he could please provide video footage, photographs and audio recordings in his possession in regard to assault inflicted or directed at him by the deceased as indicated,” the e-mail continues.
Previously the relationship was labelled abusive but with AKA being the only perpetrator after shock footage of an aggressive AKA breaking down the bedroom door in their apartment to get to a traumatised Tembe went viral sparking allegations of abuse.
INVESTIGATION INTO NELLI TEMBE’S DEATH REOPENED
The initial inquest into Tembe’s death was reportedly conducted as murder. However, it seems AKA may have cleared his name in the investigation of Nelli Tembe’s death through his tell-all interview with eNCA news anchor Thembekile Mrototo where he detailed various instances of Tembe attempting to take her own life.
The investigation into her death was closed on 25 May, just three days after his interview was uploaded to YouTube. However, the new investigation that is in process is standard in the case where the deceased passed away due to “unnatural causes”.
“The docket was subsequently returned to the police for further investigation. [However], the NPA did not return the docket due to certain loopholes; further investigation was requested as is standard for all matters where the deceased dies of unnatural causes,” said NPA Western Cape spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila to City Press.
