As Malawians continue to attack President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for including his daughter on the delegates accompanying him to the United Kingdom (UK) for Education Summit, Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has asked the President to call off the trip.

Chakwera is expected to leave the country this coming Sunday to UK to attended the Education Summit which will be co-hosted by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya.

The trip has attracted mixed reactions with many attacking the President since the event will be hosted virtually, according to the statement circulating on social media.

In a statement released few minutes ago made available to faceofmalawi CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa said the trip is of no use to Malawians.

“It is against this background that CDEDI is challenging President Chakwera to cancel the UK trip, now that Malawians have uncovered the shameful scheme of an attempt to dupe the citizenry. On the other hand, we would like to implore all Malawians to wake up from their deep slumber and stand up against this executive impunity.

“The President must be forced to cancel the UK trip, or else, let us all go and join him on the trip at airport. A stitch in time, as they say, saves nine (Amalawi, muvi woyang’anira, suchedwa kulowa m’maso),” reads in part the statement.

Government is yet to comment on the matter.
