The fired Attorney General Dr. Chikosa Silungwe has sent an official communication to the Malawi Law Society informing them of his dismissal.

President Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday shocked the general public after he fired Silungwe who just served as Attorney General of the country for a year, terminating his three year old term.

However, the grounds behind his firing are currently not known.

Presidential Spokesperson Brian Banda has refused to give more details on the matter referring the media to the Secretary for the President office for more information.

Government’s spokesperson Gospel Kazako has said that Chakwera is working on appointing another Attorney General to replace Silungwe.

Confirming receiving the letter from Silungwe, Malawi Law Society Executive Secretary, Chrispine Ngunde said Silungwe did not write the grounds of his firing.

Meanwhile, Malawi Law Society has said that it is yet to learnt from the president the reason he fired Silungwe.

Silungwe has however been applauded for discharging his duties professionally.

The firing of Silungwe has attracted a number of opinions from the populace of which some are faulting Chakwera for his decision.
