Government has reduced the number of beneficiaries of the Agriculture Input Program from 3 million to 2 million.
According to a statement addressed to all District Commissioners, the reduction is due to financial constraints.
In the statement, Sandram Maweru, Secretary for Irrigation in the ministry of Agriculture, has said the ministry updated the 2021-2022 beneficiaries data few weeks ago, upon which a decision was made to reduce the numbers, citing a rise in fertilizer prices.
Meanwhile, government has directed all district commissioners to ensure that beneficiaries of this year’s farming season have been scaled down at village level.
