Police have been contacted after photos and video of Manchester United and England record goalscorer Wayne Rooney were shared online.

The Mirror write that the photos have been ‘reported to Greater Manchester Police as a possible crime.’

Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford refused to comment on the social media photos on Sunday, with the Mirror reporting he ‘directed calls to reputation PR expert Ian Monk’.

The pictures appear to show Rooney upright but asleep in a chair between two nearby women, one of whom is lying on a bed in the background. Several bottles can also be seen in the photos.

The footage has been shared on Twitter and fans have circulated them around messaging services like WhatsApp.

There is no suggestion Rooney did anything untoward or behaved inappropriately.

There is a timestamp reading “8.30” but no indication as to whether it is am or pm, or the exact date on which the footage was captured, but they are believed to have been taken in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

The former United centre forward is now manager of Derby County having initially taken over on a caretaker basis in November 2020.

He was subsequently given the job full-time two months later and steered the Rams clear of relegation to League One thanks to a dramatic 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of the season.
