A Malawian renowned poet, Robert Chiwamba will on July 31, 2021 clock 10 years since he started poetry.
Chiwamba said he has lived a dream of speaking through poetry on behalf of the old and vulnerable people on issues which affect them.
“I will clock 10 years in poetry performance by the end of July this year. This period has been a mixed bag. First and foremost, I have had a lot of opportunities that I wouldn’t attain if I were not a poet.
“For instance, I had an opportunity to recite at the State House,” Chiwamba said.
The artist further explained he also represented Malawi at United Nations Education Scientific Culture Organization (UNESCO) as European Union (EU) Skills and Technical Education Program Ambassador.
“Poetry has taken me to Sweden. I have also achieved several awards. On the other side, piracy has been one of my major challenges and has made me not to get royalties from Copyright Society of Malawi as I was supposed to,” he said.
One of the persons who commented on Chiwamba’s Facebook Page, Moses Mkwinda, said he would love if Chiwamba could shoot a video of a poem titled ‘Mkuluyi wapita ndi ndalama zanga’.
The poet also expressed concern with the phasing out of Compact Disks (CDs), a development which he said has affected his poetry marketing.
