A 62-year-old hotelier allegedly hammered his 33-year-old son to death at Perur Chettipalayam area of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. After the crime, the sexagenarian, identified as G Bakkiyanathan, surrendered to local police.
According to the police, Bakkiyanathan, a resident of GVL Nagar, was operating a hotel from a rented building in Perur Chettupalayam area for the last two years. The crisis unleashed by the virus pandemic had severely affected his business.
“The landlord, Ganesh, had requested Bakkiyanathan to vacate the building. While he was attempting to vacate the building around 11 am on Tuesday, his 33-year-old son B Sabarinathan, who was drunk, opposed the move as the same wasn’t discussed with him,” a report by The Times of India quoted an investigation officer as saying.
Sabarinathan pushed Bakkiyanathan down. Bakkiyanathan flew into rage as he sustained injuries to his hands. He picked up a hammer and hit Sabarinathan on the head, leading to injuries that caused his death on the spot. Later, Bakkiyanathan surrendered to the local police around 5 pm.
Police booked Bakkiyanathan under relevant sections and recorded his arrest. The victim’s body was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated.
