Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has denied that he appointed his daughter to a diplomatic mission.

Addressing the media at Kamuzu International Airpot upon his arrival from the UK, the Malawi president said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the mandate and power to appoint people to work in diplomatic missions and he has no idea how the appointment was made.

Chakwera only disputed that his daughter’s appointment was to the Brussels mission but did not mention the specific mission the daughter will serve.

The leader went further to defend the firing of former Attorney General, Chikosa Silungwe, saying the decision was based on terms and conditions of the contract.

Chakwera tried not to say much, he only said he has the authority to hire and fire as per the Constitutional provisions.
