President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has once again denied appointing his daughter to a diplomatic mission.
Two weeks ago news was all over the social media claiming that Chakwera has picked his most loved daughter for a diplomatic post in Brussels, Belgium.
Following the development, Chakwera was under fire for being a hypocrite as he was accused of practicing what his predecessor former President Peter Mutharika was doing.
During a hard talk interview with British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Chakwera expressed shock when asked on his decision to appoint his daughter as a diplomat.
“I am really amazed that you could use that as an example of something that is even not true. Violet s not going to Brussels,” Chakwera said.
The president further asked the interviewer to first check their facts at the same time emphasizing that his daughter is not going to Brussels.
Yesterday Chakwera also faced similar question from reporters at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) upon his arrival from UK.
In his response Chakwera said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the mandate to appoint people to work in diplomatic missions and he has no idea how the appointment was made.
Chakwera only disputed that the daughter’s appointment was to the Brussels mission but did not mention the specific Mission where the daughter will serve.
Meanwhile it is yet to be seen if Chakwera will reverse the appointment of his daughter.
