President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has refused to disclose reasons for the firing of Attorney General Chikosa Silungwe as demanded by some quarters of the society.

Two weeks ago Chakwera fired Chikosa Silungwe and the issue attracted mixed reactions with many including the Malawi Law Society (MLS) demanding reasons for the firing.

But answering questions from reporters at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe yesterday, Chakwera irrespective of the fact that he consults before making decisions, he shall not be obliged to disclose who he does consult.

Chakwera stressed that for every job there are terms of employment and set expectations which in this case would have informed his decision on Silungwe.

He underscores that it is his prerogative and his decisions do not have to be validated by the Vice President.

Meanwhile Chakwera is yet to appoint new Attorney General.
