The Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament has rejected the appointment of Vincent Chipeta as Director General for the Finance Intelligence Authority (FIA).
PAC Chairperson Joyce Chitsulo who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Mwanza West confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to Chitsulo, 15 members voted against Chipeta’s appointment while two MPs voted for him, meaning he has failed the interview.
Chipeta had earlier told the committee that once confirmed, he would increase quality of output, equip investigators with necessary skills, and fully utilize FIA investigating powers.
Chipeta has been acting DG for FIA since December 2019.
