Aspiring Member of Parliament for Blantyre Kabula Constituency Alex Chimwala on Friday led Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youths in a clean-up exercise at South Lunzu Health Centre in Blantyre.

Chimwala and the youths swept the whole compound surrounding South Lunzu Health Centre and the exercise took almost 2 hours.

Speaking after the exercise Chimwala urged the youths and all Malawians in general to keep their surroundings clean and tidy at all times.

“I just want to encourage the youths of Malawi and my Constituency in particular that we should clean up our premises. This initiative is the best initiative which I have ever seen. The President started it himself and we should emulate his example by following his footstep.

“You know, wherever we go we should clean up, whether it is the market or the hospital let’s make sure that the places are clean especially now that the country is hosting the SADC Summit. This will help us as country to attract more investors,” said Chimwala.

On her part, one of the MCP youths identified as Noria Kachale, a representative of Born Free Youths in the South urged the youths in the country to be in the forefront in the clean-up campaign.

“Well my message is simple and straight, we all know that our President has always been preaching about love, cleanliness and togetherness so we are here just to emulate that,” said Kachale.

South Lunzu Health Centre Nursing Officer Gilbetha Chisamba Baila hailed Chimwala and MCP youths for the exercise.

She said the health centre is understaffed and it is not easy for the premises to be clean.

The National Cleanup Campaign-initiative which aims at ensuring sanitation in cities and residential areas was launched by the State President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera November 11, 2020.
