The administration of the Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccine has commenced across the country today.

On Saturday, Malawi received about 302, 000 doses of the J and J vaccine from the US government through the COVAX facility.

This is the second type of vaccine to be introduced in the country with the hope of combatting the Covid19 pandemic.

Unlike the AstraZeneca jab, Johnson and Johnson is a single dose injection with an efficacy of 85.4 % against severe diseases.

Health authorities have since warned people who have received a single or full dose of AstraZeneca not to mix the serums.

A consignment of the AstraZeneca jabs is expected to come into the country later this month.

Malawi is currently experiencing third wave of COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed over 1, 300 Malawians.
