United Transformation Movement (UTM) has come out of the cocoon to comment on the recent arrest of Minister of Energy Newton Kambala.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested Kambala together with Presidential Advisor Chris Chaima Banda and Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) President Enock Chihana.

The three are accused of attempting to influence the awarding of contract of fuel importation at NOCMA.

The three are currently appearing before ACB in the capital Lilongwe and supporters for UTM and AFORD chanting songs outside ACB officers.

Speaking to supporters UTM spokesperson Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo has said the party, a member of the governing Tonse administration, does not oppose or take a stand on the arrest of Minister of Energy Newton Kambala despite the party’s officials and supporters thronging to the Bureau to express support to the arrested minister and co-accused persons.

ACB is now recording statement from Energy Minister Newton Kambala and AFORD President Enoch Chihana after finishing with Chris Chaima Banda, the presidential aide.
