Police in Ndirande have arrested 17 year old Kenani John, for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15 year-old standard 8 learner in Ndirande, Blantyre.
Kenani, a kabaza operator has persistently defiled the girl since January 2020.
According to the mother of the girl, her daughter went missing from July 31, 2021 and resurfaced on August 3, 2021.
When quizzed to explain her whereabouts, the daughter revealed that she had been cohabitating with Kenani John in Ndirande.
She also confessed that she is pregnant and realized this predicament in May this year.
Upon hearing everything, the mother took her to a private clinic within Ndirande township whereby it was confirmed that she is indeed pregnant.
The matter was reported to police and officers launched investigations which led to the arrest of Kenani.
The Kabaza operator admitted to having unprotected sexual intercourse with the minor.
The girl has since been referred to a government medical facility for further assessment.
Upon completion of investigations, the suspect will be taken to court to answer the charge of defilement which is contrary to section 138 (1) of the penal code.
Kenani John hails from Manama village in the area of Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre.
