Police in Lilongwe have arrested Executive Director of Center For Democracy and Economic Initiative (CDEDI) Sylvester Namiwa.

Namiwa was leading a group of holding vigils at Parliament Building in the capital over the smuggled bill.

Namiwa and his CDEDI, are demanding answers from the Speaker of National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara and leader of the house Richard Chimwendo Banda on how a K93 billion bill loan authorization was smuggled into parliament.

Yesterday, the Lilongwe City Council disapproved CDEDI’s decision to hold vigils at parliament citing security concerns as the main reason.

However, Namiwa, was adamant to proceed with the vigils saying they had not received am official communication.

Police have now moved in dispersing CDEDI members away from the parliament premises.
