The United Democratic Front (UDF) has demanded for the unconditional release of Centre for Democracy and Economic Development (CDEDI) Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa.

The police in Lilongwe on Wednesday arrested Namiwa and 11 other CDEDI members for holding vigil at Parliament without getting clearance from Lilongwe City Council.

In a statement released today UDF Acting Spokesperson Yusuf Mwawa described Namiwa’s arrest as an attack to democracy.

Mwawa has since demanded for his unconditional release.
