Former ActionAid Executive Director Grace Malera has been appointed Ombudsman, replacing Martha Chizuma who is now Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General.

Five people competed for the position, according to Public Appointment Committee (PAC) of Parliament Chairperson Joyce Chitsuro.

Chitsuro said Malera scored 22.6 out of 25 to emerge the best.

Malera once moderated Presidential debate ahead of the 2019 Presidential polls which saw former President Peter Mutharika being declared winner.

But the polls were quashed by the constitutional court leading to the fresh Presidential polls on June 23, 2020 which saw President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera being declared winner.
