Blantyre Cycling Crew in collaboration with EDUFUND has organized a fundraiser in a quest to raise funds which will go towards paying tuition fees for needy students who dropped out of school due to financial constraints.

Speaking in an interview with Face of Malawi, EDUFUND Communication Officer Bester Kayaye said the focal point for the initiative is to promote access to quality tertiary education through supporting marginalized students.

“This activity is taking place on September 4, this year, where cyclists will cycle from Blantyre to Zomba and along the way, they will be soliciting funds from well_ wishing individuals and companies and we are hoping that people will welcome this event with tender hearts,” he Said.

Kayaye further said the fundraiser is targeting students from Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) formerly known as The Polytechnic.

“We communicated with the dean of students from MUBAS to give us list for these needy students whom we are trying to help and we intend to raise about 35 million kwacha,” explained Kayaye.

He however said that his organization is currently formulating sustainable means that will help needy students to remain in schools citing examples of loan disbursement.

Matias Seleman ,a Mathematical Science Education student at MUBAS who failed to access his final year examination results on financial grounds, said the fundraiser will help him to clear up the balance of school fees.

Meanwhile, about 88 cyclists under Blantyre Cycling Crew have confirmed their participation and are expected to patronize the fundraiser.
