It’s been almost a decade since the ruthless slaughter of mineworkers happened in Marikana South Africa.
The Marikana massacre was the killing of 34 miners by the South African Police Service (SAPS).
It took place on 16 August 2012 and was the most lethal use of force by South African security forces against civilians since 1976.
The massacre has been compared to the 1960 Sharpeville massacre.
The incident took place on the 25th anniversary of a nationwide miners’ strike.
