Botswana’s Elias Mpedi Magosi has been sworn in as the new Executive Secretary of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
He has replaced Stargomena Lawrence Tax from Tanzania whose two terms have ended.
The swearing in ceremony has been presided over by Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda.
Magosi was endorsed by the 41st SADC Summit yesterday.
He is the 7th and the first from Botswana to assume the role, taking over from Stergomena Lawrence Tax after completing her two terms of office.
Apart from Malawi’s assumption of the SADC chairmanship from Mozambique, Botswana has also handed over chairmanship for the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense and Security to the Republic of South Africa.
