The Court in Blantyre has adjourned to September 3, 2021 a nurse assault case due to the absence of state prosecutor.
The state prosecutor in the case is said to have been transferred to Lilongwe.
The case was scheduled for sentencing today after both the defence and state made final submission in the case but the case failed to commence.
Instead, state applied for an adjournment to a later date to allow the prosecutor to travel from Lilongwe to proceed with the case.
Visibly not amused magistrate Akkya Mwanyongo said in the court that “I’m at pains to adjourn this case. This court doesn’t like matters to stall.”
Esnat Selemani and her daughter, Yankho, are being accused of assaulting a nurse at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
The two assaulted Gertrude Moffat, 26, in Ward 5A after she asked them to leave the ward due to Covid-19 restrictions.
