The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) says it stands by its findings on the Msundwe rape and defilement case in Lilongwe, Chairperson for the Commission Scader Louise has disclosed.

She was speaking when the Commission addressed Journalists on Thursday in Lilongwe.

The press briefing follows a recent news article under the headline ‘Msundwe rape claims untrue.’

“We maintain our stand the investigations were credible and truthful, so the attacks on the survivors as well as the misinformation is affecting the people who were abused,” said Scader in part.

Meanwhile, the Commission has signed an agreement with Police to conduct a fresh investigation on the matter. During the briefing, it was also disclosed that the family of slain law enforcer Usumani Imedi has since been compensated.

The briefing was among others attended by various MHRC commissioners and representation from the Women Lawyers Association.
