Police in Ndirande have arrested Wyson Alexander, 24, for allegedly stealing money amounting to K100,000 from a mobile money agent at Majiga within the township.

Patricia Thonyiwa, 52, a business lady in Ndirande reported that on the material day, she left her 24-year-old son to operate at her agency shop.

Around 9 o’clock in the morning, the boy received a client who requested for money transfer amounting to K100,000 to a certain mobile number while the client was busy pretending to be counting cash in his bag.

Few minutes later, the agent successfully completed the transaction before he received cash.

Upon demanding for the cash from the client, he openly said that he had no money and he started off.

The victim immediately shouted for help and residents mobilised and apprehended the suspect.

Police officers who were on vehicle patrol arrived at the scene and managed to rescue the suspect who was being heavily assaulted by an angry mob.

Alexander has since revealed to police detectives that this was his second attempt to steal money through same way and that his first attempt was successful.

As soon as investigations are complete, the suspect will be taken to court to answer fraud charges contrary to section 319 A (a) of the Penal Code.

Alexander hails from Komkesi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Masache in Chikwawa district.
