Two young brothers took over the control of their SUV and drove themselves to safety after their father was fatally shot while driving on Friday night in Texas.

The father, 29, was driving the vehicle alongside his two sons, ages 8 and 6, when he was shot before he was shot minutes before 11 pm, according to Houston Police Department (HPD) Public Information Officer Joh Cannon, who spoke to CNN.

After their father was shot, the two brothers reportedly drove the SUV off the freeway to a strip mall parking lot, where one of the boys ran out to call for help, according to a report by CNN.

The boy’s father was, however, pronounced dead at the scene. The boys, however, escaped unharmed from the incident.

The police are currently looking for the shooter as they continue to investigate the matter to find the motive of the shooting.

“We don’t know if it was targeting or road rage,” Cannon said as reported by CNN, adding that it may have been something else.

The police say they are currently looking for a while passenger vehicle.

The police will search the area, find any witnesses, and review video footage from the cameras on the freeway.
