Fire on Monday night gutted the offices of Rumphi District Education Manager (DEM).
Rumphi DEM Macphine Mzumara said he suspects the fire might have started due to an electricity fault.
“I can confirm that we are completely helpless because the fire is all over the office structure. We tried to stop it using water from horse pipe, but we have failed. This means a lot of property and documents have been burnt,” he said.
Rumphi District Council has no fire engine and relies on the one from Mzuzu City Council, which is made available on request.
