The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) board of directors have appointed economist Henry Kachaje as Chief Executive officer (CEO).

Kachaje replaces Collins Magalasi who is currently answering charges of corruption in court.

MERA board chairperson Leonard Chikadya has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Chikadya, 92 applications were received and the board shortlisted the best eight candidates for interviews.

“Henry Kachaje emerged as the best candidate amongst those eight candidates,” Chikadya said.

The appointment of Kachaje is with effect from today.
