A police officer in Rumphi has died after the vehicle he was travelling was involved in road accident at at Kapelemera Bridge soon after Matunkha along Rumphi,Bolero road.
The deceased police officer has been identified as Chikumbutso Kachitseko aged 32 from Chipezayani village,T/A Kalumbu in Lilongwe
The accident happened on August 22, 2021, according to a police report made available to faceofmalawi.
“Facts of the accident are that; On the date and time stated above, the above mentioned driver was driving from the direction of Rumphi going towards Bolero and he was alone.Upon arrival at Kapelemera Bridge soon after Matunkha.
“He lost control of the motor vehicle due to speeding and went further to the extreme nearside part of the road where it flew over the deeper part of it and hit it’s embankment before it fell into the dry river,” reads in part the statement.
Added the statement: “Following the impact, the deceased sustained severe head injuries and multiple body fractures and he was taken to Rumphi District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.”
The vehicle Mitsubishi EK_Station Wagon saloon was extensively damaged.
