Government through Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoEST) has extended the contracts of 3,270 auxiliary teachers.

The teachers, however, have questioned the Ministry of Education for not coming out clear on the extended period and the amount of money they will be receiving.

The auxiliary teachers’ deputy spokesperson, Frackson Golowa, says as much as they appreciate the extension, they are still worried.

A statement signed by Principal Secretary for education, Chikondano Mussa, only states that teachers recruited from Initial Primary Teacher Education (IPTE 13) cohort should continue teaching as they have been doing since February 2021.

Capital Hill initially recruited the teachers on a five month contract in February.

The contract was extended for two months in June but has now it has been extended for an unspecified period.
